30th November

Today was the day we left KL and headed to Penang. We woke up at around 9:30 and started packing. We wanted to leave by 10:30 to catch the monorail and bus to the airport. We got our refund back for the key deposit and was on our way. We could not leave KL without getting our wonderful Dimsums. With all our luggage on our backs we walked to the monorail and was dying from the weight and the heat. We got to the Skybus and enjoyed to air-conditioned comfort ride. It was good to see the country side of Malaysia again. On the trip I looked back on all the great times we had in KL and was somewhat sad to leave it.

At the AirAsia terminal it was like a bus port. There was so many people and so many flights leaving to god knows where we made our way to check in. We made it just in time because check in was suppose to close just before we arrived at the counter. We ate our Dimsums in the airport and by this time they were cold but still yum yum.

The flight was really good and short. We could choose were we sat and Kate and I had a whole row to ourselves. The view outside the window was beautiful as you could see everything so clearly as there was hardly any clouds. The plain trip took 45 minutes so by the time it reached its peak altitude it was time to come down again. At the Penang international airport where we landed we got our luggage and had cheeseburgers from Mac Donalds.

We decided to catch a bus in the city and we thought that the place we were staying in (Hotel Mingood) was in Butterworth, but turns our Butterworth was on the main land and our hotel was in George Town. The bus driver was friendly enough to tell us when to get off. Having know clue where we were we got a taxi to our hotel from the bus terminal.
The hotel was surprisingly nice. With a large room, TV and private ensuite with a bath. We had a three hour nap upon arrival cause we were both so stuffed from last night. Then we went to have dinner at this famous Penang open food court//market called Red Garden. There I ordered this huge glass of milo which would have been like 1L. It was funny. We had fried rice (so good) and I also had chicken wings (OHHH SO GOOD). We got some drinks and other stuff on the way home at the “HAPPY SOMETHING” shop. Came home and went on the internet. Wasn’t a very eventful day today but was good to have a rest and be in a new location.

29th November

Today was our great shopping expedition. We woke up early with high expectation of spending up little and getting a lot with the massive savings offered KL wide. The first stop at 10am (when the shops opened) was Pavilion. We went in and after 20 min or so we were out of there because it was a upper class shopping centre with extremely expensive brands such as Gucci and crap. They had a really nice huge Christmas tree out the front of it but.

With Jusco in mind because we knew they had big sales on we made our way through stores to get to the monorail to find a Jusco store. What I thought was a stop on the monorail turned out to be a different suburb to what Jusco was in. A little disappointed we made our way to this massive 8 story mall in times square. We wondered around looking at shops for an hour or so and didn’t buy anything because the sales were disappointing and there was nothing new that we couldn’t buy in Australia. Reaching the end of one floor to our surprise we saw a rollercoaster track along the wall. We were like what the hell! We went up a few stories to discover that there was a theme park within the shopping centre. The rollercoaster looked sooo awesome. After much thought about whether to go in or not, we decided we had to because the possibility of finding a theme park in another shopping centre on our travels was limited. The park was pretty empty and the number of rides there was limited. But the rollercoaster was really fun. The fact that it was indoors probably made it seem a lot better too. The rollercoaster was the longest indoor rollercoaster in Asia. After going on the rollercoaster we went on the bumper cars then this ride similar to ranger I think its called at the royal show (it is similar too bounties revenge but has the seats on both sides). After that ride I was feeling nauseous. To top it off I was willing to go on the roller coaster again. (bad idea haha). I really needed food to calm my stomach and anyway we were both starving. There was a sushi train restaurant next door and we thought hell yeh. Inside was so Japanese with the cups of tea etc. Each plate was colour coded to represent how much that cost. Of course we chose the cheapest colours because we are cheap lol and plus we didn’t like all the fancy seafood stuff. We enjoyed the meal there and I was still feeling pretty sick. We left the theme park and made our way home.

The monorail we wanted to catch was not operating for some reason and knowing that our destination was only one stop away we decided to walk. Before we went home we entered another shopping centre called Sungei Wang shopping centre. This is were I bought Kim’s Christmas present because I hadn’t seen anything like it in Australia. On the main stage area there was some break dancing competition. It was amazing to see their tricks. Also it was world aid awareness day and we were both given ribbons to show our support for the cause.
With nothing more specific to do Kate wanted to have a look at the teen fashion level on the top floor (level six). We saw some pretty funny and funky clothes. One of them had a picture of a girl and said something like “Have I told you I was a lesbian”. I loved it so much and wanted to buy it but was a girls top so thought nah. One this floor is were we had dinner. There was this teen-y restaurant called Gasoline. They had the coolest drinks. Kate ordered ______ with jelly because she had been wanting Bubble tea with jelly since we’d arrived. I ordered this plum and raspberry drink. It was so massive and overflowing. It was also soooo good. The food was pretty standard but the drinks made up for it.

Getting back to our hostel I slept for a few hours because I was really tired. I woke up to find Kate on the floor packing and eating jelly. Tonight was our big clubbing night so we had a few pre-drinks of vodka and beer. We were laughing so much at the most randomise stuff. Finally we were both ready to hit the town. We arrived at the Beach club, the most popular club in Asia. We paid the 35RM cover fee each and went in to find it was similar to the Newport. Everyone was having a great time including us, then the live band came on. We both agreed to move on at this stage because we both weren’t a big fan of live music. We only had 30RM left because we only took 100RM just in case we got robbed or pick pocketed. The next club, Aloha, was the same club we went to on Wednesday night and the entrance fee was the same but somehow if we bought a drink we could get in with just the drink. We could only afford the cheapest drink and that was orange juice. Expensive orange juice at 18RM each. At this time there was only two people on the dance floor and I was like stuff it I’m going to dance. Kate came on for a while but left because she felt awkward. Due to the lack of people we went back to the Beach Club. We stayed there and listened to the R&B music they play everywhere. A really fat black dude wanted to dance with Kate bahahaha but I just told him she was my girl friend and he backed off (a little bit) haha. The live band came on again so we made our way back to Aloha.

This time it was packed and everyone was pretty much dancing. The same music played as played at the Beach Club which was disappointing and the music seemed to be in the exact same order as on Wednesday night. What made the club worse was the amount of people smoking in it. My eyes were sore from the smoke. We tried to get free water but they said they don’t serve it so we stole ice from peoples ice buckets lol. We left that club at 2am and walked home. We were both stuffed by then and crashed in bed. The day was pretty jam packed.

28th November

Today was the day we planned to go to Sunway Lagoon theme park. We woke up early at 8:30 to catch the public transport there to get there when it opens at 11. We had toast for breakfast and got our bathers on ready to go. We caught the monorail to KL sentral and from there we caught the train to Sebain Saba (not sure of name) station. We were a little bit confused on how to get to the sunway shopping centre, but after seeing a run down bus with sign Sunway we hoped on that. The bus was so squishy and sounded like the gears have warn down. I laughed most of the way at the drivers ability to drive it. We followed the crowd to Sunway Lagoon. We waited in line and got our cool electronic wrist band which gave us access into the park. Upon entry the first thing we went to was the wave pool. To get there you go down escalators (that’s right, they had escalators to take you down to the swimming area) We were longing for the water and finally we got some. Afterwards we went to the tube slides and a slide that is straight where you down down and is like a U shape, going up and down up and down till you stop naturally. From these slides we went on the speed mats and me and kate went so fast we were airborne on some of the dips.

The food in the park was quite expensive (like every theme park). It was the 1st time we had a western meal of hamburgers and chips. This is only because they didn’t have any other food really available. After eating the meal we went on rides to vomit it up haha. We went on a rode similar to the Bounties revenge at adventure world but it went around completely, went on a rollercoaster and teecups (that spun around). The rides weren’t that thrilling and we ended up back into the water. It started to rain and it was nice being in the rain while in the pool. We decided to leave and have a look at the shops in Sunway Pyramid at around 5:30. Overall I would say that the theme park is equivalent to Adventure World but was much nicer done.

We exited and entered the giant mall which overlooked the Lagoon theme park. Inside there was an ice ring on the bottom floor. We really wanted to go ice skating but because we only had 20RM, no socks and mitts we couldn’t do it. We decided to have a look around and found a store called Jusco. Inside they had massive sales of 70% designer brands such as diesel. We were devastated that we only had 20RM so we decided to rush back to KL and get some money and go shopping closer to home. We caught the bus back to the station and caught the train and monorail back. The train was sooooo full, we had to stand squashed the whole time. At the moment I really just wanted to get home because was so tired and extremely hungry. We decided to eat at the major centre outside the monorail because it was the closest food. After walking around for 20 minutes trying to find food we ended up asking and was told to go to the 4th floor. I was quite shocked how run down that floor was compared to the others. There was only a few places open which included “buffet” style where the food probably had been sitting there all day. We saw one man in a small kitchen cooking food in a clay pot and thought this would be the safest option. Waiting for 15 minutes for him to cook it we were dying, but it was so worth the wait. The food was great and had novelty because it was in a pot. We went home that night and chatted to people on msn then went to bed.

27th November

After a late night we both slept in to 12:30. Waking up pretty late during the day we decided to spend half of day in the government precinct called Petra Jaya. We had low expectations because the whole area is dedicated to the government. We caught public transport there and took roughly an hour on the train. At the time it was roughly 4ish. Arriving there we did not have a clue what we were doing and what we wanted to see. We asked the bus driver of the first bus that pulled up that we wanted to go into the main touristy area and he was quite confused. He told us to wait there and he went to get a map. We pointed at a random land mark and said here. Fortunately the bus driver said the 2 girls that got on before wanted to go to the similar area and told us to get off when they did. We went through the outer suburbs where all the government workers lived. Being a muslim government all the women wore vales and men wore long pants. We were quite out of place in our tshirt, shorts and thongs. The bus driver told us to get off and Kate and I as well as the girls got off. We were on the middle of a highway and was like where the hell are we. We asked the girls and they said if you go that way there are some really beautiful stuff. We didn’t know what exactly but we walked that way and came to a newly designed building. It was a botanic garden. We hired bikes there and rode around. It was very beautiful. There were different sections of plants for different sections of the world. Returning our bikes bought drinks, soya bean and cendol, grossness. Next we walked walked and kept on walking. Up a hill to the palace and fancy hotel and their equivalent of the bell tower. Walked down the hill, started pouring, nice security guard let us stand in his shelter. Ran to the bus stop through squishy grass then decided that we were too hungry to last all the way home. We asked a lady where the nearest food place was. Went to the food court-got Indian food. Yum, yum, yum. Overlooked the water, bridges and the ginormous mosque (look at pics) Walked some more and more and more. When we decided it was time to go we walked away from the waters edge and up toward the main buildings. Stupid maarble floors sooo slippery. (btws its pouring again) Couldn’t find the bus stop, just flagged down any bus that passed, then we got directions to go to the other side of the road. Just sitting there in the open soaking wet waiting for a bus. When the bus finally came we were the only two on it. The bus driving got talking and wanted an Australian dollar to add to his collecting. We didn’t have any so we took his address and plan to send him one in the mail ( as if that will ever happen). Then we bussed it back to kl central on a freezing bus and caught the monorail home. Good night…

26th November

Woke up at 11:30 today. Decided to book a tour to get out of the city and explore different regions. The tour guide was coming to our guest stay at 2:30 so we had few hours to kill. With kate waking up early she already had breakfast and shower, but I hadn’t. With the free breakfast already finished, I decided to make myself some 2 minute noodles for breaky. We played scrabble for like 5 minutes and enrolled for next year. At 2 we were both hungry so we went around the corner to a DimSum place. It was so good. Then we came back and the tour guide was waiting for us. The tour guide was very good as he explained things quite well. He drove us through the city into the villages (what we call suburbs). Our destination was the “Buta Cave” which was a muslim place of worship. Going past an industrial area we arrived and there was this tall gold monument of one of the gods (gold painted). This was at the base of the cave. To get inside the cave it was necessary to climb over 200 stairs. On and around the stairs were monkeys and we were very careful with our stuff because the tour guide told us that they are known to steal stuff and try to take your bag. After the exhausting climb, we made it to this big opening of the cave. Inside there was water dripping from the ceiling and was nice and cool. Scattered through the cave was statues of the muslims gods, like the elephant with many arms. There were muslims in their playing music and preparing their gods for the ceremony at night. On returning to ground level we could see that the monkeys were very distressed and people screaming. We were like what the hell is happening here. It seemed that the monkeys were attacking people at the bottom mosics. Then people ran from the mosics holding a baby monkey, then we realised that they were teasing the monkeys. This went on for a while then they gave the monkey back.

From here the tour guide took us to a peuta (silver metal) place which pretty much was just a shop trying to sell us stuff. Thought it was going to be a bit more educational but guess not. We did not buy anything from them. Going back into the city we went past a mosic with more wonderful statues of their gods. We got out and our tour guide explained more about there religion and practises. It was very interesting to see how their religion works and their beliefs. It is quite different to Christianity. After 4 hours or so we were dropped back to our house. We had dinner then decided to go clubbing.

Before we could go clubbing Kate needed a bag to put some of her stuff in. We went to the markets and haggled haggled haggled. We went to this girl and she was explaining all the best clubs to go to. After her sweet talk her asking price for a bag was outrageous. Finally using her calculator we got a reasonable price and bought it.

Clubs in Malaysia are similar to Australia but the not. There was a cover charge at all clubs (around 30 RMB) and you receive a “free” drink. The Beach club was the first club we went too but after told we had to pay 30 RMB each to get in we thought forget it. Next club we went to had free entry for girls and they get a drink and was 25 RMB for guys without a drink. Due to our indecisiveness the bouncer let us both in for free. Inside the club was pretty we done up. R&B music was playing and no one was dancing. Kate got her free drink and we try dancing but was too awkward without anyone else dancing and so we decided to try the next club. The next club was a lot better. Although the cover charge was 30RMB for me we both got a free drink so it was ok. Inside was so fancy and all the Asians were dancing. We started dancing straight away. All the Asians were DDRing and the pulled me into the middle of their circle so I can show them my moves. I just laughed and quickly pulled kate in and I moved out. Drinks are so expensive there and you buy them by the bottle. A bottle of vodka like 300RMB. We didn’t buy any drinks. There is someone in the toilet that turns the taps on for you, hands you a towel and opens the door for you. Feel like royalty. We stumbled home at around 2ish then went to the same place we went for lunch for some food and headed home. It was another eventful day :D

25th November

Woke up early, set alarm for 7.30 am to get to the PETRONAS towers to get tickets. (bad idea? Maybe- wanted to sleep, ha ha) Had breakfast - consisted of white bread toast peanut butter and jam out of lunch boxes with black tea and coffee mate. Made way to the towers. Realised how badly we did circles last night. No need for public transport-just walk in the general direction of the towers. Found all the ‘tourist areas: in our expedition . PETRONAS (petroleum and gas) got there bout 9.10- first in first served. Lined up for roughly 30 minutes and got tickets for the 2:30 session. With that being the most important purpose of today we wanted to keep close to the area so we do not miss it. We decided to go to the local mall just beside it called the Isetan. We were starving by the this time and wanted to find a cheaper place to eat because the food in the area was too expensive. After walking around in a general direction for a while we found this curry house on the side of the street. When we entered we did not have a clue what we were doing as it was kind of self serve. The people there were quite helpful although their English was limited. We were given a plate of rice each and we were able to choose what we wanted with it from the trays. Most of the food was sea food and yucky but there was some beef so I got that. Kate was a little bit more confused about the food and the guy pointed to a dish saying chicken. Kate thinking it was chicken spooned the stuff from the dish beside it. We sat down to eat and realised that her ‘chicken’ was hairy and was not chicken at all. We thought it was tongue haha and totally put kate off her meal. While eating I could just think of all the germs and crap in the meal. When kate finished her rice we decided to go back to the area around the towers to kill 3 hours. To get to the area we decided to go through the convention centre. To our disappointment there was a food court inside with fairly cheap food. We walked through and came to a lovely park outside. Walking through the park we saw a kids playground and decided to walk towards it. Walking over the hill we saw a waterfall and when looked down, to our surprise it was a public puddle pool. Kate and I dashed down there as fast as we could. I went for a swim without a shirt and kate put her head under the water fall but didn’t swim because of her clothes. After about 10 minutes of wadding, a uniformed officer started blowing her whistle. I looked at her and around me to see what she was on about. I ignored it. She blow her whistle again. I looked at her and pointed to myself and she nodded. I approached her and she said I was too old to be swimming here, only 12 years and under. I was hell cut. She said I can put my feet in water if I wear a shirt. So I did and we stayed little longer.

With more time to kill we went to get coffee that ended up being super expensive at 24 RMB. Good thing was the guy made a mistake with the order so we got 3 coffees for price of 2. Then time past and we went to the twin towers. To begin the tour we were shown a video about the company “PETRONAS” who owned the building. Of course they had to be a oil company and they blabbered on about how they are so important in the community. Then after going through a security check point that was more security at the airport we went up the lift to the bridge. The view was great but was not 360. We took photos and admired the view for 10 min then had to go down again. We went food shopping and laughed at all the weird stuff they have. We bought crisps that tasted like KFC chicken. Yum yum yum. Then went for dinner at lot 10 shopping centre food court.

To finish the night we went looking for beer but was not happy about the pricing so walked around. We caught the mono rail back to bintang. Kate wanted to go get her feet eaten by fish so we did that. What an experience. There are these fish that peck at your feet and eat the skin. After 30 minutes your feet are nice and smooth. It tickled so much at the start and was just such a weird sensation. You get used to it after a while. For 20 RMB each I say it was worth it for the experience. Only in asia

24th November

Today we left Perth for KL flying Air Asia X. We were surprised with the quality of the plane. The size of the seats were pretty standard but they came with tv screens as standard. The 6 hour plane trip didn’t seems that long thanks to movies and tv shows on my laptop. We had our first asia meal called nasi lemak on the plane. When we arrived at the airport we were surprised that customs did not check our bags. It was whi6tkind of overwhelming because we did not really know what to do. To catch taxis from the airport we had to buy a coupon. The drive from the airport to our home stay was roughly the same time from Mandrah to Perth. The taxi driver did 130km/h in an 80 zone. There were so many planted palm trees everywhere on the way to KL.. Also the houses in the suburbs were like from an american movie- they were all the same, like 100’s of houses looking exactly the same. When we 1st got into KL it was exciting to see all the shops and buildings everywhere. We arrived at the guest house and was warmly greeted by the lady at receiption. We were shown the room and around. The room is pretty standard but it’s a bed and has airconditioning. After that we went exploring by feet around the city. With china town our decided destination we randomly walked in its general direction. It was a little harder to find then we 1st anticipated. When we got there we went to the night markets. I was concerned about my possessions but nothing was taken. So many ppl were hassling us too buy stuff. Best way to reply is squeal at them haha. After starving for hours we got food at this small resturant. It was the 1st time we started to use chopsticks. After we went back to the markets. On the way home we got so lost. We were walking around for ages. Around in circles. Passing places 3 or 4 times. Then we realised we were looking at the wrong place on the map so we were aiming for the wrong place to begin with. After prob an hour we got directions and found the place ok. We went to bed early so we can wake up tomorrow early.
